Cake time then fun time

I ONLY bake cakes when there is a birthday in my family of four.  It's not that I hate the process; I am unfamiliar with it.  When I look back my mother despised baking.  Perhaps because her mother was constantly creating something in the kitchen, and more that likely my mom had to help.  I feel like when I bake I go in blind.  Just recently I found the importance of the crumb coat, of which, I had to look up online.  However, when I finish baking, cooling, stacking, and frosting I am proud of the final product.  I admire it despite the lumps and bumps and tendency to lean.  I cannot wait to celebrate Travis 1st birthday!

There is my birthday boy

After my helper and I finished this fabulous cake Tyler and Dustin showed up to take us fishing at our pond.  It was just what I needed after spending the last 5 hours in the kitchen.  The birds were sweetly chirping and the overcast sky soothed and reinvigorated my body and soul.

Travis has the funniest smile.  Looks so ornery.  He also stood for the 1st time all by himself for about 6 seconds

We stock our pond with blue gill (in the picture), yellow perch, channel cat, grass carp, and large mouth bass
